Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia Cator attended the College of Charleston where he majored in French, and later the American College in London where he graduated with honors with a Fashion Marketing degree.  Since moving to New York City in 1999 Cator has worked in both beauty and fashion PR, which lead to his transition to a full-time journalist in 2008.

Most recently, Cator was the Editor-in-Chief of TheManual.com from 2013-2018. He then wrote for Architectural Digest, Departures, Bloomberg Pursuits, and 1stDibs to name a few until he transitioned into life coaching.

Cator finds writing about design, travel, grooming, and men’s style the perfect way to continue educating himself and his fellow man through everything from trips to Scotland to explore the mills of Harris Tweed to poking around well-designed homes around the globe for inspiration and story ideas.  Cator has been featured for his own dandified style in Ike Ude’s Style File, The Daily TelegraphStylelikeu.com, and in Bill Cunningham’s section of The New York Times, Evening Hours.

Cator lives in downtown Charleston (his Happy Place) with his Scottish Terriers, Fergus and Gareth. He was commissioned a Colonel of Kentucky by Governor Steven L. Beshear and has requested all friends and family call him ‘Colonel Cator’ from now on.
